Although very Parisian-inspired, wrap top VONDEL is named after the Vondelpark in Amsterdam - a park where I have spent countless, blissful hours biking, playing with my kids and relaxing on picnic blankets.
Wrap top + dress VONDEL is a feminine, easy-to-wear true wrap with a deep V neck and a long waist tie to close. VONDEL features a one-piece shoulder yoke with a curved center back and front and back gathers for shaping. With three sleeve length options - cuff, half-sleeve and 7/8-sleeve - as well as three lengths - top, short dress or midi dress - you can make a different VONDEL for every occasion. This pattern includes French seams, the burrito method and other creative techniques to achieve a beautiful clean finish. Thanks to detailed illustrated instruction, this is the perfect pattern to learn French seams or to up your sewing game!
This pattern was drafted for a B cup and approx. 168 cm or 5ft.6in. Step-by-step illustrated instructions guide you from start to finish on a standard sewing machine using French seams.
GENERAL INFO
This is a computer drafted, print and cut, layered PDF pattern, printable in black/white or color. Both A0 and copyshop files are included in your purchase. The pattern includes all sizes, but the size views can be easily toggled on or off in order to print either all sizes or only the size(s) you want to make. Sizes are nested to facilitate grading between sizes.
SIZING
halfmoon ATELIER patterns do not follow standard sizing charts. It is therefore important to choose your size based on your own measurements and the chart below rather than according to a typical ready-to-wear size. Final garment measurements of the top and dress are included in the pattern.
FABRIC
Wrap top VONDEL has been designed for light- to mid-weight woven fabric with drape, such as double gauze, crepe, silk, Tencel, rayon, linen, shirting, voile, etc.
Because of all the different options between a top, short dress and midi dress, as well as different sleeve lengths, fabric requirements vary widely. A detailed list of fabric requirements for three different fabric widths is included in the pattern. The tables below are for 137 cm, or 54", wide fabric and assume that you will be making your own bias tape.
NOTIONS
fusible interfacing, bias tape, coordinating thread, (optional) 6 mm (3/16", size 4) sew-on snap
DIFFICULTY

Great expectations, and when posing in ready made dress it looks great! There are several aspects of the design that are interesting especially the yoke construction. I used a lightweight cotton, with a slight one way stretch. However wearing it is not as carefree as expected. Neck line opening, where two halves cross is awkward and press stud, if using, creates pull in fabric as one moves arms, say, at the dinner table. The angle of the ties is awkward also as they angle down rather than at 90 degrees. This is especially pronounced as the side opening for the ties are slightly above the natural waist line ( for me anyway). At this point I am not sure if I will persevere and make it again with modifications. Seems like too much work for uncertain pay offs.
Wanted to try making a wrap dress and pleased with result. More complicated than I thought but good instructions, only dislike was the hole for the straps to come through and to be honest wished I’d made it without pockets . Gave it 4 stars as not completely happy with results , French seams made any alterations difficult to do as wrap not quite in the right place for my bust/ waistline and not sure any amount of pre measuring could have told me that . Will definitely make another of your patterns as really like detailed instructions often missing from other pdf patterns . Perhaps I’ll try an easier pattern!
The instructions for this pattern were so easy to follow- every step explained very well. I made the sleeveless, short version in chambray, graded between size 1on top and 2 on the bottom. Hits at my knee (I’m 5’3”) Love that there is no gape at the v neck. I plan on making this with sleeves and a warmer fabric for winter.
The top turned out beautifully. Clear and concise instructions. Bust adjustment instructions are included. This is a pattern I will make more than once.
I love this pattern and how easy it was to work with. I've had lots of experience with pdf sewing patterns and I really appreciate the attention to detail that was put into this one. I especially liked how you could turn sizes on and off in the PDF pattern when printing so you can isolate your size and avoid confusion when cutting out the pattern pieces. The instructions were very easy to follow, the end product was beautiful. This is a very high quality pattern and I would highly recommend it.
